Armani Face Fabric foundation review

E brandishes the sword of flawless coverage
E: As a follow up to your adventures in foundation, I wanted to mention Face Fabric. Face Fabric, the brainchild, or possibly facechild, of supernatural reptile cosmetics god, Mr Armani. Now, I should preface this by saying that I am basically in thrall to Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser for the summer. I am her slave.
M: Oh, interesting. I thought you couldn’t be bothered with it during the week?
E: No, that’s right, but recently, it has started to make all manner of sense. I wasn’t expecting it, but it’s grown on me. Like a dewy, moisturising fungus. Eeew I have revolted myself.
M: Again. Tell me more about Face Fabric.
E: Well, I’m not foundation phobic. I quite like foundation. I have both Face Fabric and Luminous Silk, by the Lizard King. Mr Armani isn’t stupid when it comes to foundation. He knows his beigey coveragey stuff.
M: And indeed, brain control.
E: Ssssh he can hear you.
M: I have a sample of Luminous Silk. I like it.
E: Yes, it’s good for facial leprosy. It has more coverage than Face Fabric.
M: But it doesn’t give you that breathy feel.
E: Nope. Whereas Face Fabric is like magical disappearing foundation. A bit like your Diorskin.
M: What’s it like? I have poked it at the counter. Is it a bit moussy?
E: Yes, it feels quite thick in the tube and when you put it on. But once it’s on, it just fucks off into your skin and concentrates on making you even and dewy. I use my fingers because I am fucking lazy and it still looks good.
M: It’s clever, that Face Fabric.
E: Yup. It’s Fabric. For your Face. I just repeat buy without ever getting tempted to buy anything else (except Laura Mercier).
M: Is it matte? Dry as the desert sand?
E: No! It’s more sheer. And the colour match is great for me (#1 cadaver)
M: Does it actually cover anything?
E: Erm. I think so. I could show you? With a pic with one half Face Fabricked and the other nothing?
M: Yes, do. My craggy volcanic slopes of a face demand it.
E: Uh oh. don’t say volcano.
M: Shhhhhhhh.
E: Ssssssssh. Ok, here you go:
M: I take it the Face Fabric is applied on the left hand side of your face (in the photos)?
E: I’m glad you can tell. This could have been embarrassing.
M: No, it is visible but also very natural.
E: That’s space technology for you.
M: Space Technology Holy Grail Foundation. I’m still looking for mine. What’s your favourite foundation, facegoopists?
Armani Face Fabric foundation, £29

I’m really lazy, aveda’s tinted moisturiser or when I can’t be bothered with that, a burkha.
Oooooh, what’s the nail polish in the first picture?
I don’t really wear foundation, just concealer where I need it. When I do wear it, it’s either Suqqu or Rouge Bunny Rouge.
I like estee Lauder doublewear light. But then, I am 104, & require something with full on united states of America weapons grade polymers to make a stab at flawlessness.
I am going to admit a terrible beauty secret – I use No7 tinted moisturiser. It’s the only one so far I’ve found I’m not allergic too.
E, you can tell the difference and it does look natural, but I have to say, the other side of your face isn’t craggy or volcanic, your skin looks about the same as mine, and I am constantly told I have lovely skin (which is a good thing, because I’m chubby, and who wants to be chubby and have bad skin?).
Hi Grace, It’s OPI We’ll always have Paris.
Mrs T – I am also 104 which is why I look like a badger’s arse on BOTH sides of that picture. But I am also deluded.
Badger’s arses are cute. FACT.
I tried the face fabric just the other day and while it was awesomely light, it also stuck to the dehydrated bits of my face in a flaky manner. So one to try before you
sacrifice a goat to the Lizard Kingbuy.Powder-format mineral foundation all the way – L’oreal one is good. And you can reapply it before you leave work to go to the pub without having to take off the existing layer. Not that I do this often.
You do not look like a badger’s arse! You have lovely skin.
I did guess which side had the Face Burkha thing on it, but I reckon that it was because the right side of your face (right hand side in photo) is in slight shade.
Don’t have a favourite foundation, am therefore officially a foundation tart – I’ll buy whatever is on special offer and comes in #1 Scottish blue.
Ali x
I’m reading your foundation posts with extra special concentration because, like M, I have NEVER (and I’m incredibly old) found one that matches my skin. Or even matches it enough so that I look less like a dusky maiden and more a recently risen from the ground near death experiment. I go through stages of spending a fortune and then gah!
So I will take your advice, oh wise ones, and put some Face Fabric to the test. No pressure.
OK. Right side of E’s face: dewy nymphet. Left side: dewy nymphet plus.
I too require weapons-grade polymers, or possibly polyfilla deftly applied with a small, delicate trowel.
When you finally establish Hag magazine, it would be nice to have some serious, PROPER foundation testing. With WH Auden or Mother Theresa as models. Badger’s arse? You have no idea.
I like Terry’s (really – isn’t that a dreadful name for a makeup brand) Lumiere Veloute. When I wear it people invariably say, my, don’t you look well. So I have taken to wearing it to conceal all signs of the vile hangover. So now they know if I’m wearing the good foundation, I’m hungover. Hmmm. Downside is, it costs £54 of your earth pounds. But I’m telling you – worth it.
I am partial to powder compact foundations generally as they allow me to lazily pat on coverage without any additional tools (though I find they really apply best with a fluffy powder brush) and also allow for touch ups. Chanel’s Double Perfection Something-or-other is the best of these I have found and will cover anything up to and including scratches from feral toddlers (unlike Shu Uemura’s similar offering, it never cakes despite my dry, unwholesome-looking skin). Alas the lightest color (.5 Vanilla) is ever so slightly darker than I would like. I hear that Chanel’s Vitalumiere compact confort eclat blah-blah-blah is even better, but it isn’t available in the US and it looks as though the lightest color is only available in Asia, meaning I haven’t tried it yet because shipping is horrendously expensive and I’m out of money.
I’ve recently switched to the Vitalumiere liquid because they came out with a new even LIGHTER lightest shade (.2 Diaphanous Shroud, I think), and it is so moisturizing and natural-looking and wonderful that it is almost certainly full of cancer-causing chemicals. Sometimes I pat a bit of the aforementioned Double Perfection in slightly-too-dark-Vanilla over any areas that require more severe punishment, as the Vitalumiere liquid is quite sheer.
(Of course it goes without saying that I only do ANY of this on the rare occasions I leave my house.)
I LOVE foundation and I wear it every day. My holy grail is MAC Face & Body Foundation. It’s very light and quite runny, almost watery, so you can vary the coverage a lot. If you just slap on a bit in the daytime it’s probably as sheer as a tinted moisturiser, but you can kind of build it up in layers if you want to look more polished. Not polished like a mahogany bedknob or anything, obviously, or a chestnut. I mean more finished. I also like Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect at the moment; it has a nice dewy finish.
Oooh, and I got a sample of Diorskin Nude today from the Dior makeup counter reptile lady! I’m very excited.
Gemma has this and loves it. Meanwhile I have gone my own way with one by Le Metier De Beaute that was so expensive it HAS to be good. HAS TO. Looks amazing on you E.
